‘ShrimPy Station’ Drives Forward Campaign to End Period Poverty

22 May 2023

A specially designed ‘ShrimPy Station’ has been set up at Oakgrove, in a bid to build on the school’s achievement in helping to turn period poverty into period equality.

In a week-long campaign, 22 – 26 May, which is designed to coincide with Menstrual Hygiene Day on 28 May, students will be encouraged to pick up free period products, badges and a ShrimPy card that entitles them to period packs from local retailers, outside of school hours. Staff will also be on-hand at the stand during lunch breaks to help with any questions students may have on periods and puberty.

The ShrimPy card, which was produced in collaboration with Brooklands based craft and gift shop Shrimp & Doodle, was introduced at the school in July 2022 and has been a resounding success. Over 1400 free period packs alone have been collected by Oakgrove students, via local retailers, Waitrose, Tesco, Boots and Shrimp & Doodle at Brooklands.

During school hours stocks of mini product packs, which are supplied by the Department for Education, are also available to students at various locations around Oakgrove School.
