Curriculum Intent

Oakgrove's curriculum ensures students are equipped with the knowledge, skills, academic currency and cultural capital they need to confidently meet the challenges of the 21st century and achieve their aspirational goals. It fosters a reading culture, developing both academic reading skills and a love of reading.

The school believes in a broad and balanced curriculum, underpinned by high academic standards. There are clear pathways in each subject area for knowledge and developing pedagogy which are meticulously planned and sequenced to ensure that learning builds coherently from Early Years Foundation Stage to Key Stage 5.

Oakgrove's knowledge rich approach reflects the diversity of our student population. whilst ensuring that all students are able to access the curriculum. Stretch and challenge is an integral part of all areas of the curriculum.

The National Curriculum is our starting point, but in all subjects and in all years our curriculum exceeds the expectations, providing opportunities for our students to experience the best that has been said, written and created.

All-through Curriculum - Early Years Foundation Stage to Key Stage 5

As an all-through school our curriculum is carefully sequenced from Early Years Foundation Stage to Key Stage 5. Cross-phase Subject Leaders, and their teams, have collaborated to develop a coherent curriculum approach, which has a shared core, goes beyond the National Curriculum and reflects the rich diversity of our school community. All stakeholders, including the students, are involved in quality assuring the curriculum to ensure its effectiveness.
