Excellent Turnout at Prospective Year 7 Open Evening
Oakgrove’s prospective Year 7 Open Evening, held on 25 September was a tremendous success, with an excellent turnout from prospective students and their families. Visitors had the opportunity to gain a valuable insight into the school’s core values, curriculum and extensive extra-curricular programme.
Over 200 current Year 7-13 students supported the evening, taking on a variety of roles including welcoming guests, leading tours and representing subjects and clubs. The students were outstanding ambassadors, showing great confidence in engaging with visitors and expressing clear pride in their school community. Many visitors commented on how impressed they were by the students’ enthusiasm and knowledge.
This year, Oakgrove took a new approach to the tours, by pairing up guides in advance, with each pair made up of students from different year groups. They had the opportunity to meet beforehand and used icebreaker questions to get to know one another. This supported one of our key school priorities this year, developing students’ oracy skills.
On the evening itself, it was fantastic to see the tour guides engaging confidently with each other and we hope these new connections will continue as they see each other around the school in the future.
